Orsted is parting ways with Chief Executive Officer Mads Nipper as the Danish wind energy group grapples with supply-chain bottlenecks, high financing costs and U.S. President Trump’s opposition to wind power.

The world’s largest offshore wind developer has announced fresh writedowns on its US business, sending its shares down sharply as the inauguration of Donald Trump as president clouds the outlook for the renewables sector.  

Norway’s Equinor has bought a 9.8% stake valued at around $2.5 billion in Danish offshore wind farm developer Orsted, it said on Monday, as it seeks to build up its renewables portfolio.

Orsted, the world’s largest offshore wind developer, said it planned to take steps “to become a leaner and more efficient” organization following a year marked by “substantial challenges.”

Nov 1 (Reuters) – Renewable energy firm Orsted on Wednesday halted the development of two U.S. offshore wind projects and said related impairments had surged, as the industry grapples with supply chain delays and higher costs.

Denmark’s Orsted , the world’s largest offshore wind farm developer, said on Wednesday it may see U.S. impairments of 16 billion Danish crowns ($2.3 billion) due to supply chain problems, soaring interest rates and a lack of new tax credits.
