Shares in Swiss bank EFG International rose by as much as 10% on Thursday fuelled by a media report that the bank could soon be subject to a takeover bid by Swiss rival Julius Baer.

Swiss private bank Julius Baer held talks with EFG International about a potential takeover in recent months but the discussions have stopped, people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

ZURICH, Nov 16 (Reuters) – EFG International shares were up 3% early on Thursday after the Swiss private bank reported net profit of more than 240 million Swiss francs ($270.09 million) for the first 10 months of the year and expanded its share buyback program.
