UniCredit offered to buy the second largest Italian bank Banco BPM for €10bn in late November last year. The acquisition was a counter offer by UniCredit after BPM’s bid to buy Anima for €1bn – to boost its asset management fee income amid falling interest rates.

Germany’s Commerzbank said on Friday that it posted a 20% increase in net profit in 2024, announcing earnings nearly two weeks ahead of schedule as it fends off interest in a tie-up from Italy’s UniCredit.

Italy’s UniCredit has launched a €10.1bn takeover bid for domestic rival Banco BPM, turning to its home market for consolidation after a hostile reception in Germany to its overtures for Commerzbank.

UniCredit raised its profit outlook on Wednesday and said it would start paying out half of its net income to investors in cash from next year, after posting a higher-than-expected net profit for the third quarter.

UniCredit announced on Monday it had increased its stake in German lender Commerzbank
to around 21% and submitted a request to boost the holding to up to 29.9%.

Commerzbank and UniCredit shares extended gains on Thursday after the Italian bank’s CEO Andrea Orcel laid out plans to buy more of its German rival or even take it over, fuelling speculation about further dealmaking in the region.

Italy’s UniCredit said on Wednesday it had acquired a 9% stake in Commerzbank and will seek approval to potentially buy more, in a move that raised the prospect of CEO Andrea Orcel preparing to take over the German lender.

Shares of Italian bank UniCredit
hit their highest level since 2015 on Monday, after announcing that it would return 8.6 billion euros ($9.2 billion) to investors on the back of higher-than-expected profits.

Στην αύξηση του τιμήματος που προσφέρει για την απόκτηση του 9% της Alpha Bank από το Ταμείο Χρηματοπιστωτικής Σταθερότητας θα προχωρήσει την Παρασκευή η  Unicredit,  βελτιώνοντας την τιμή κατά 8% με 10%, όπως αναφέρουν καλά πληροφορημένες πηγές.

Unicredit, Italy’s only bank considered to be of global systemic relevance, said net profit was 2.3 billion euros ($2.5 billion) in the three months through September, well above a consensus forecast by the bank of 1.9 billion euros and up 36% from a year ago.

Στην επιβεβαίωση της πρότασης της UniCredit για την απόκτηση του 9% των μετοχών της Alpha Bank προχώρησε το ΤΧΣ, το οποίο ανέφερε πως έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει τη διαδικασία διορισμού Συμβούλου ΔΙάθεσης, η οποία θα ολοκληρωθεί εντός των επόμενων ημερών.

Italy’s second-largest bank UniCredit said on Friday it had entered into an enlarged payments partnership with Mastercard.
